Youth Training on Climate Change Negotiations and Advocacy
March 16–18, 2025 | Holiday Inn Resort, Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu
Youth Action for Sustainable and Eco Nepal (YASEN) successfully hosted the Youth Training on Climate Change Negotiations and Advocacy, a landmark three-day program that convened 35 dynamic youth leaders from across Nepal. Organized with the generous support of the UK Government, IIED, CASA, and Prakriti Resource Center, the training aimed to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to engage effectively in national and international climate policy processes.
The sessions provided an in-depth understanding of key global and national climate frameworks, covering the COP negotiation process, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Loss and Damage, Climate Finance, and pathways for Youth Leadership. Beyond knowledge-sharing, the training was highly participatory—featuring interactive discussions, breakout group activities, a full Mock COP simulation, and position paper drafting for COP30. These hands-on exercises gave participants practical exposure to negotiation dynamics and strengthened their ability to articulate youth-driven perspectives in international diplomacy.
One of the most significant outcomes of the training was the development of a youth-led position paper for COP30, reflecting the voices and priorities of Nepal’s young generation. This process empowered participants to directly contribute to shaping Nepal’s stance in the global climate dialogue.
By the end of the program, participants emerged with enhanced negotiation and advocacy skills, stronger leadership capacity, and a renewed commitment to climate justice. The training not only showcased the urgency of bold climate action but also highlighted the crucial role of youth as changemakers in building a just, resilient, and sustainable future for Nepal and beyond.
