Local Conference of Youth (LCOY)
Nepal 2024
August 3 & 4, Battisputali, Kathmandu
The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Nepal 2024, part of the global YOUNGO movement under the UNFCCC, was successfully held in Kathmandu, bringing together nearly 200 passionate youth from across Nepal. With the motto “Local to Global: Youth for Climate Action in Nepal,” the event created a vibrant platform to amplify youth voices, showcase grassroots climate solutions, and strengthen youth participation in national and international climate dialogues.
It was jointly organized by Youth Action for Sustainable and Eco Nepal (YASEN) and Sustainability Week Kathmandu (SWK), the conference focused on key thematic areas including Children and Youth Engagement in NDCs, Loss and Damage, Capacity Building through Collaborative Learning and Networking, and Indigenous Knowledge for Climate Resilience. These themes reflected both local realities and global priorities, ensuring that Nepalese youth perspectives were firmly embedded in the broader climate justice discourse.
Over the course of two impactful days, participants engaged in expert-led sessions, policy discussions, interactive workshops, and cultural exchanges. A highlight of the event was the collective drafting of youth policy recommendations for NDC 3.0, offering concrete inputs to strengthen Nepal’s climate commitments. Through meaningful dialogue and collaboration, LCOY Nepal 2024 became a space where youth not only learned and shared but also influenced policy processes and shaped narratives for climate justice.
The conference reaffirmed the urgency of youth-driven climate action, highlighting their role as innovators, advocates, and leaders. By bridging local knowledge with global processes, LCOY Nepal 2024 demonstrated how youth are shaping inclusive, equitable, and sustainable climate solutions for Nepal and beyond.
