LCOY Nepal 2023

LCOY Nepal 2023 plays a crucial role in sensitising and capacitating young individuals regarding climate change and related concerns. The theme for LCOY Nepal 2023, “From Vision to Action, Youth Leading the Way for Climate Action in Nepal,” emphasized Climate Justice and Equity, Youth Empowerment, Climate Finance and Governance, and Community Engagement.
LCOY Nepal 2023 was held at the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM), Kalimati, in Kathmandu on 15-16 September 2023.
LCOY Nepal 2023 exemplified the resilience and diversity within our community. Our participants proudly represented a rich tapestry of backgrounds, genders, abilities, and perspectives. This collective diversity served as a testament to our shared dedication to addressing the urgent matter of climate action. This remarkable diversity was a testament to the success of our outreach efforts and a reflection of our unwavering dedication to making climate action accessible and inviting to all. We have been able to cater to youths from Chadhani/Dodhara to Ilam/Jhapa of Nepal, representing all seven provinces.
Youth Engagement and Participation

It provided a space where the voices of young people from diverse backgrounds across Nepal were not only heard but also actively contributed to shaping the discussions, policies, and solutions for a sustainable future. The event fostered a sense of ownership among the youth, making them true stakeholders in the fight against climate change.

Panel Discussion on Invest in Women
International Women’s Day 2024
“Invest in Women”
Introduction
On March 10, 2024, SHE Changes Climate Nepal was officially launched as a country Network in partnership with Women for Human Rights, single women group (WHR) and Youth Action for Sustainable and Eco Nepal (YASEN).
In honor of March being Women’s Month, we organized a collaborative in-person panel discussion with the theme “Invest in Women” on March 10, 2024. We had three panelists named Pragya Sherchan representing the Civil Society Organization, Arnab Chaudhary representing Indigenous Groups, and Priti Sakha representing Youth. This panel session was created as a constructive space for diverse groups to engage and share, focusing on how we can value inclusion, diversity, and women’s leadership as a fundamental way of investing in women and a just future.
Participants
A total of 50 participants attended the panel session. The panel session was mostly intended for women, youths, indigenous groups, and civil society organizations. Representatives from each of them made the deliberations in the panel session.
Our Sessions
Our session started with a brief overview of SHE Changes Climate’s work and its goals as a country network. Along with that, our partners also shared what kind of work they have been doing and what expectations they have as partners from SHE Changes Climate Nepal.
The panel session was more inclusive, with interaction among panelists and audiences. This panel session gave us a clear picture: women are definitely on the frontlines of climate change, but they are unaware of the mitigation measures to be taken to lessen its effects. The focus of the discussion was mostly on the government’s responsibility in bridging the gender gap in climate leadership and what opportunities youth, women, and indigenous groups should be given for inclusive involvement.
We also revealed the result of our video contest and screened the winner video, which was on the theme ‘Count Her In’, encouraging voices to be heard via the art of storytelling.
Finally, a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was formed with ‘Women for Human Rights, Single Women Group’ (WHR) and ‘Youth Action for Sustainable and Eco Nepal’ (YASEN).
Our Forthcoming Purpose
As partners with WHR and YASEN, we look forward to working more for marginalized women groups. It was discussed that although our partners have consistently sought to empower women, they haven’t done so directly in the climate field. As a result, this collaboration directly allows us to work more with underrepresented female groups that have been adversely affected by climate change but are unaware of it. In the coming days, we want to carry out this movement, utilizing youth resources.
